The need for financial advice We believe that our clients should have access to high quality, independent financial advice. Such advice is vital if individuals are to protect and enhance the value of their assets, plan for the future, and undertake effective tax planning.
Since the Trustee Act 2000 trustees generally have obligations to seek appropriate advice, in order to discharge fully their duties to the beneficiaries of the fund.
The firm is not authorised under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 but we able in certain circumstances to offer a limited range of investment services to clients because we are members of the Law Society. We can provide these investment services if they are an incidental part of the professional services few have been engaged to provide
Independent advice We are convinced of the value of genuinely independent financial advice. To us this means advice from someone who has the necessary expertise, who also access to the full range of financial products, is not in any sense tied to particular institutions, and who does not work on a commission basis.
Cane Cohen Limited For the benefit of those of our clients who do not already have access to independent financial advice, Tassells has taken a controlling interest in Cane Cohen Limited, an IFA firm whose principal, Nicholas Cane, has long experience of working with solicitors. Cane Cohen is authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority (‘FSA’) and clients of Cane Cohen enjoy the protection afforded by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, whereas Tassells’ clients enjoy the statutory protections afforded by the corresponding Law Society scheme. Cane Cohen is also is a member of the trade body for solicitors’ financial advisers, Solicitors Independent Financial Advice (‘SIFA’). When the requirement for financial advice arises, these factors are explained to Tassells’ clients.
